BI(G)GENDER (back on feet)
About
BI(G)GENDER is a continuation of the collective study of the idea of sisterhood in dance, choreography and contact improvisation, started by the authors in 2019. The original title of the performance refers to phraseological associations in Polish and English: "stand on your feet / to be back on feet (catch your balance)" - recover, regain strength, pull yourself together, become independent. Also gender seen as an object that, when animated, acquires meanings. The viewer of this spectacle is witness to a peculiar vivisection in which two choreographers bring a gigantic costume to life. The "bi(g)gender" suit was created as part of the creation of the costYOUme / YOUniform collection in 2017 in Belgium at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp by Monika Nyckowska The object refers to the fashion type of androgyne, i.e. a combination of male and female physical features that meet in a symbolic harmony of duality. When creating this picogram silhouette, a graphic representation of identities was used, which are expressed in the chosen form and color of the costume. The music accompanying the choreographic action was composed for four hands and piano. The composition was recorded from the inside of the instrument.
